I have had the good fortune to have practiced Business Analysis for more than 35 years. My practice has been as both an employee and a contractor, primarily with large, international financial institutions and government entities. I have worked in three countries and had clients and employers in five.
I describe Business Analysis as follows:
Business Analysis is the process through which issues or problems are examined in sufficient detail to enable the identification of one or more possible solutions, guidance is provided to enable the selection of the most appropriate solution, and verification that the selected solution is working as expected.
I am currently employed as a Business Systems Analyst with an organization in Toronto, Canada. One of the major components of my current role is to be a mentor to other Business Analysts who have different experiences than I do, both in terms of years and business backgrounds.
